Heart Health Hub offers private echocardiograms in Belfast, Northern Ireland. An echocardiogram, also called an echo or heart ultrasound, uses sound waves to create moving images of your heart.

The scan helps assess your heart’s structure, how well it pumps and how its valves work. Our team will explain the procedure and guide you through your appointment.

What happens during an echocardiogram?

You will be asked to remove clothing from your upper body, and a gown or dignity cover will be provided. You will usually lie on your left side while the scan takes place.

The clinician applies gel and moves an ultrasound probe across your chest to capture images of your heart from different angles. The scan uses ultrasound rather than radiation.

Please allow 30–60 minutes for your appointment.

How to prepare for your heart scan

For a standard echocardiogram, you can usually eat, drink and take your regular medication as normal, unless your clinical team advises otherwise.

Wear comfortable clothing that is easy to remove from your upper body. Follow any preparation instructions provided with your booking and contact us if you have questions.

Your echocardiogram results

Results are provided within 5 working days of completing your scan.

Your report will be sent to your GP and any referring doctor. Urgent findings will be discussed, and a referral to our partner cardiologist can be arranged where needed.
