Heart rhythm assessments help identify abnormalities in the electrical signals that control your heartbeat. We offer two key tests — a quick resting ECG and extended Holter (ambulatory) monitoring — to capture irregular rhythms such as atrial fibrillation (AF), pauses, extra beats or fast/slow heartbeat patterns.

Early detection of rhythm problems is crucial for preventing complications, including stroke. At Heart Health Hub, our NHS-trained cardiac specialists provide safe, accurate assessments with clear explanations and rapid results, helping you understand what’s happening with your heart.

What happens during the test

Resting ECG

Small stickers (electrodes) are placed on your chest, arms and legs while you lie still. These record your heart’s electrical signals for a few seconds. The test is painless, safe and takes around 5 minutes.

Holter / Ambulatory Monitoring

For extended rhythm analysis, we fit small electrodes connected to a lightweight portable recorder worn from 24, 48, 72 hours or 7 days. This captures your heartbeat continuously as you go about your daily routine, helping detect intermittent symptoms that don’t always appear during a resting ECG.

How to prepare
  • Eat, drink and take your usual medications as normal.
  • Avoid applying lotions, oils or creams to your chest beforehand.
  • Wear a loose-fitting top for easy access.
  • If you are having Holter monitoring, please shower before the appointment (the monitor cannot get wet).
  • If you have a hairy chest, you may want to shave beforehand.
What to expect

Both tests are comfortable and non-invasive.

  • ECG: You will lie down while the electrodes are attached, and the recording takes just a few moments.
  • Holter monitor: Fitting and setting up takes around 5-10 minutes. Once in place, most people barely notice it. You’ll receive a diary to note symptoms, activities or anything unusual during monitoring.

You can continue your normal activities, including work and exercise — just avoid getting the device wet if wearing a Holter monitor.

Your results

All recordings are analysed by experienced cardiac specialists, with clear results delivered within 3–5 working days. We’ll explain any irregularities, discuss next steps and arrange further testing or priority consultant review if required.

At Heart Health Hub, our goal is to give you clarity, confidence and expert guidance in understanding your heart rhythm.
